Life Skills Coach/Facilitator Development Training
This modularized Life Skills Coach/Facilitator Training program is designed to prepare aspiring Life Skills practitioners for the practice of group counseling and facilitation. Conducted in a controlled learning environment, this comprehensive approach emphasizes personal development alongside the professional aspects of the program. Its effectiveness hinges on the extensive experience of Indigenous peoples and the quality of Indigenous-based facilitation and development.
The program is structured into distinct phases. Phases 1-4 lay the foundation by equipping participants with the necessary knowledge and skills for group counseling and facilitation. Phase 5 involves skill assessments that determine eligibility for participants to become certified as Life Skills Coaches. In cases where a participant doesn't meet the Phase 5 requirements, they still complete the program and receive a Facilitator Development Certificate. All participants who successfully complete Phases 1-4 and Phase 5 earn a Life Skills Coach Certificate.
To enroll in this program, participants should possess a Grade 12 Certificate and/or have a background in social services, human services, or the human resource field. Alternatively, they should demonstrate an equivalent combination of education and experience. Given the demanding nature of group counseling and facilitation, good physical and emotional health, as well as high energy levels, are essential qualities for trainees and Life Skills Coaches.
